Death in a Foreign Country
If you travel out of the country, it is important to know what to do in case of an accidental or natural
death. Canadians should immediately contact the nearest Canadian Consular Officials. They guide you in
dealing with any police matters, arrangements, documentation, etc.
For more information see the
Canadian Consular Affairs
(Information to take on any international trip available here.)
Transporting Human Remains
With a death in the USA there is also the problem of getting remains through airport security.
You may want to consider a TSA (Transportation Security Administration) Funeral Home.
Alberta Funeral Services Regulatory Board - website
This board provides funeral advice, legal information, a list of licensed Alberta funeral homes,
complaint handling process and other information.
The Canadian Bereavement Register
can help you end unwanted marketing to the deceased solicitations. There is a new service to stop this intrusion.
See their web site for more information.
